Analytic techniques help answer key business questions:
Descriptive analysis answers “what happened in the past?”
Diagnostic analysis answers “why did it happen?”
Predictive analysis answers “what’s likely to happen in the future?”
Prescriptive analysis answers “what’s the best that could happen?”
We tend to focus on descriptive analyses to report the past. We should utilize more prescriptive analyses to optimize the future.
